There is no character creator. You play Coen.
No face sliders, no class pick. The campaign hands you one man with a family and a silver-poisoned pair of lungs, and lets you decide what he becomes.
The store page says it before you buy: you play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker. Wikipedia describes the player assuming control of him, Fextralife’s character entry lists his gender as male, and gameranx’s preview put the customisation question to bed in one line — no, you cannot make a custom guy. No female protagonist or gender-selection option has been announced for the campaign.
What you do control
Three skill trees
Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism, all open to Coen. Skill points buy active abilities and passives. Each tree carries three ultimate perks, and the game's own skill screen says only one can be learnt per tree — the skills page lays that out.
Two loadouts at once
IGN's review describes the two kits as separate and swapped automatically when you change form, so you are effectively building two characters in one.
Difficulty, in two halves
Story, Fair, Challenging and Duelist, with RPG and action difficulty tunable separately and changeable mid-playthrough. Duelist removes the directional attack indicator, which you can also turn off on its own.
Gear
ESO's hands-on video lists coat, gauntlets, trousers, boots, rings, amulets and a single weapon, in tiers — which is where most of how Coen looks comes from.
Skill points cannot be taken back: there is no respec in the game, only mods on PC, and the details are on the skills page with the trees themselves. The difficulty presets are on their own page. There is no second player to design for either — it is single-player, with no co-op.
Who Coen is
The official bio makes him the eldest of four children in a peasant family, sent into the silver mines alongside his father as a boy, dreaming of leaving the valley and never going, because the family needed him. Fandom’s account adds the part that explains the rest of him: his younger brother Alin went through the ice, and Coen ran for their father and came back too late.
The mines are also why he is what he is. Years of silver dust left him with argyria, and when Brencis tried to turn him, the transformation failed. Will de Renzy-Martin, who plays him, puts it plainly in Rebel Wolves’ own interview: the silver poisoning in his lungs is why he ends up being a Dawnwalker and not becoming a full vampire. Wikipedia’s account adds the detail that Brencis and his vampires never realise it worked: they believe Coen died in the attempt.
Playing as a woman, and why Coen is a Dawnwalker
- Can you play as a female character in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
- The campaign's protagonist is Coen, and no female protagonist or gender-selection option has been announced. Fextralife's character data lists his gender as male, the Steam store page calls him a young man, and Wikipedia describes the player assuming control of him.
- Is there character creation or customization?
- There is no character creator. gameranx put it bluntly in its preview: you cannot make a custom guy. What you customise is the build — skills, gear and difficulty — not a face.
- Do you ever play as anyone other than Coen?
- Every guide and store listing that names a viewpoint names Coen. The modern-day scene people remember comes from a trailer, which was never presented as a playable section.
- Why is Coen a dawnwalker instead of a vampire?
- Silver. He worked the mines from childhood and carries argyria from the silver dust, and his own actor explains that the silver poisoning in his lungs is why he ends up a Dawnwalker rather than turning fully.
