The Night of Horrors: the swamp, the crypt and the mandrake
Lacra takes Coen to find something that could beat Brencis. It has to be finished before morning, and the choice at the very end decides the romance.
After Our Rotten Roots, wait about a day — Game Rant says sixteen hours — and go back to Lacra at Westridge Outpost at night. Pick “You had some idea to talk through?” and two quests arrive at once: this one and Midnight Reckoning. Her plan is to reach the resting place of Kallias, an ancient vrakhir, and find something there to use against Brencis. NightlyGamingBinge, the r/Blood_of_Dawnwalker route post and Game8 all put it at 6 to 7 time segments.
Following the wisps
- 1.
The swamp shrine
A cutscene in the swamps, then the shrine marked on your map, where Game Rant says Coen and Lacra have their first proper conversation.
- 2.
The broken tombstone
The wisps feed on suffering, so the two of you take turns giving up painful memories to move them on. The first stop is a stone slab — Game Rant notes the inscription is signed by St. Tobias.
- 3.
The field of red vines
A severed arm, which Game Rant identifies as the hand of St. Tobias. Inspect it, then fight off the hellhounds that come for you.
- 4.
The rockfall
The wisps stop at a rockfall. Look at it in Focus Mode, and Lacra opens the way into a sunken crypt.
- 5.
The crypt
Murals and statues to examine in Focus Mode and a legendary greatsword to find. NightlyGamingBinge warns that interacting with the sarcophagus spawns enemies.
- 6.
Kallias's resting place
One more shared memory and the wisps reveal a hidden passage. At the end are the remains of the ancient vrakhir Kallias — petrified, in Game Rant's description, and still clutching a book of the notes Lacra came for, in Method's — and a mandrake.
How much the conversations along the way matter is disputed. Polygon says to feel free to ask follow-up questions when Lacra opens up to lure the wisps, and IGN places the actual romance decision at the mandrake. Game Rant is the outlier: it says one dismissive answer can sink her approval for good. Method's advice — sympathetic, honest answers — covers both readings. The rest of the romance is on the romance page.
The Vrakhir, and St. Tobias’s hand
Two things worth picking up are on this route. The first is The Vrakhir, a legendary greatsword. GameSpot finds it in the tunnels lodged in the chest of a dead creature; Method describes a sword sticking through one of the corpses, and lists it at 321 DPS, with bonus damage against mortals, more vampiric health, and vampiric abilities that recharge faster and cost less health. Method's advice is to keep an eye out for it along the way. It is on the best gear page with the rest.

The second is the Relic of St. Tobias, the hand you find at the field of red vines. Polygon, Rock Paper Shotgun and GameSpot all name it as a relic the Arbiter ritual in A Bulwark Against Darkness will take, and GameSpot files it as rare junk otherwise. Whether to keep it or sell it is argued on the relics page.
Eat the mandrake, or refuse it

| Eat it | Refuse | |
|---|---|---|
| Romance | Still open. Follow Lacra, drink from her wrist, then kiss her — Polygon, GameSpot and Game Rant give that order. | Closed. NightlyGamingBinge and Game Rant both say refusing locks you out, and Method says it ends the quest there. |
| Mandrake Ward | Once per night, lethal damage restores three health segments instead (Method, NightlyGamingBinge, GameSpot). | No perk, per NightlyGamingBinge. |
| Mesmerize | Mind-control an enemy so it fights beside you for a while (GameSpot). PC Gamer ties it to eating the mandrake; NightlyGamingBinge says it arrives with the kiss. | — |
| Lacra in the finale | Method says the perk is what lets her survive Brencis’s deadly attack later. | Game Rant says it raises her chances of dying at his hands in her final quest. |
Two details are less settled than the table. Game Rant calls the perk Mandrake Charm and describes it restoring part of the blood bar rather than health segments. And PC Gamer's endings guide only says a mid-fight cutscene implies Lacra dies if you skipped this quest or did not eat the mandrake with her — its writer had not confirmed it. Mesmerize is one of the Vrakhir blood abilities. In Method's walkthrough, Coen wakes the next morning after the kiss and Lacra is gone. NightlyGamingBinge lists 1,000 XP, two skill points and the Misery Loves Company trophy for finishing.
