The silver trader
Silver is contraband under Brencis, because silver hurts the Vrakhiri. Ordinary merchants will not touch it, so everything silver you loot is worth nothing until one man in Svartrau agrees to buy it — and at first he will tell you to leave.
At a glance

- Inside a house in the south-west corner of Svartrau City, or on the western edge just before the gate out to the Middens. Walk in through the street door.

- A white goblet icon, which appears once you are close.

- Anything with the white chalice icon in your inventory. Regular merchants will not.

- Weapons, armour, accessories and consumables, with legendaries among them.

- Smuggler, for 1,000 denarii of silver sold. 9.4% of Steam players had it in the game's first week. Track it in the achievement tracker.

Why he tells you to leave
Until you qualify, the trader plays dumb. Once you do, a new line appears where you tell him you know he deals in silver, and he opens his stock. What qualifies you is Into the Den, Notorious Infamy, or both.

Into the Den
A short quest from Coen's home region that can be done during or after the prologue. You can leave it until after the prologue, or do it before leaving Laslea Glen so that the trader is ready the first time you reach the city.

Find the bear's cave
Near Laslea Glen, and available during the prologue as well as after it. It lies either north-west, in the peat bog; east of the Northern Foothills; or north-east of the village.

Kill the Ravenous Bear
If you are still in the prologue, do Deep Down first for a better sword and some armour, and carry food. The bear swipes from the left, the right or above, slowly enough to parry; its one unblockable is dodged to the side, which puts you beside it for a few free hits.

Read what it ate
A corpse at the back of the cave carries a tattered letter. It starts Into the Den and points to a house nearby.

The house with the mark
The only house in the peat bog with a door, a yellow X painted inside, treasure to dig up. Expect wolves outside it. What you take from it is a note naming a silver dealer in Svartrau, possibly in the city's Neustadt District.

What counts as silver, and where it comes from
Look for the white chalice icon on an item. Most silver pieces are worth a few hundred denarii each — far more than everything else in Coen’s pockets, the pickles and raw meat.
- Trouble With Silver. In an Altenmarkt alley in Svartrau a guard is arresting an old woman for owning silver. Step in and fight him, and she offers you her silver brooch for 50 denarii; it sells for 95. The quest also pays 100 XP and a skill point.
- Treasure. Treasure maps are a steady source of silver, and a buried cache early on makes a good first haul to sell.
- The crypt. St. Mihai's sword in A Monk and a Saint is itself silver, and the dead thief in the cathedral well was digging towards it.
One trader, or several?
One. There is a single silver trader location in the game, a special vendor in Svartrau, rather than illicit silver vendors all over Vale Sangora. Plan around the man in Svartrau.
