Known issues and fixes
Start with the problems the developer posted workarounds for. Then check whether the bug you hit was already patched, before assuming you did something wrong.
The developer’s workarounds
PC · stuttering
Stutters in windowed or borderless mode
Rebel Wolves’ advice is to launch in Full Screen. Hotfix 1.0.5 then changed the shader compilation pipeline, which the developer says can fix stuttering for some players, so update first.
PC · crashes
Crashes while compiling shaders
The developer says to update your BIOS. The page it links to, from RAD Game Tools, is about a confirmed hardware fault in 13th and 14th generation Intel Core processors, and warns that once the crashes have started, a software fix is too late. On a self-built PC the BIOS update comes from your motherboard maker’s site.
Controller
Sprint stops when you change direction
The developer’s stopgap is to change the controller sensitivity from 1 to 0.8 in the console settings. Hotfix 1.0.2 also adjusted the dead zone and sprint input on PC. Button remapping on a PS5 pad was listed as missing and being worked on; no hotfix since mentions it.

The big patch planned for early October
The first big patch is expected around the start of October, with no exact date or version number given so far. None of this is confirmed in the game until the patch is out. What it is set to change:
| Area | Now | After the patch |
|---|---|---|
| Lock-on after a stun | Stunning an enemy moves your lock to a different one. That was deliberate, not a bug, and players have complained about it. | The switch is being taken out: a stunned enemy is set to take three hits before the stun breaks. The studio says it will watch how players react. |
| Running from a fight | Running away from a fight gets you stuck on scenery. | Running and escaping in combat are set to ignore the navigation mesh, so the movement stays fluid. |
| Enemy animals | Animals you anger while passing in wolf form or at a witch's sprint can catch you and hold you in a fight. | They will still swing at you, but if they miss you can keep going. |
| Difficulty | Four presets, with Story the easiest. | A new, easier Story preset for playing without the combat challenge; today's Story stays under another name. |
| Performance | A major complaint in Steam reviews; the hotfixes so far have improved it in steps. | More performance work is planned; no target has been given. |
Quests that will not progress
Check this list before reloading an old save. The first group has not been fixed by any hotfix; the second has, so updating is the whole answer. Time costs and where each quest starts are in the quest table.
Not covered by a hotfix
Acknowledged by Rebel Wolves; not named in 1.0.4 or 1.0.5
The blacksmith's dialogue loops on one line and you cannot progress or leave it.
The developer's workaround: find the sword shards first, then come back. A player confirms it let the dialogue move on once they had them.
Reported on Steam; not named in 1.0.4 or 1.0.5
A Steam thread reports the training duel with Ocha as bugged; one reply says Ocha vanishes.
No confirmed fix. One player passes on a tip they heard: speak to Ocha before telling the Matriarch she has returned. That only helps if you have a save from before that point.
The Heart Wants What It Wants: the balcony
Avoidable; not named in any changelog
Climbing onto Andrei's balcony during the day breaks the script of the people inside, and the quest cannot progress.
GameSpot's warning: only use the balcony at night. By day, pay the beggar or Katja and use the butcher at the front entrance instead. Hotfix 1.0.4 fixed an unnamed blocker in this quest; whether it was this one is not stated.
What Moves the Dead
One report; not named in any changelog
One Steam user reported endless loading after the conversation with the old woman and her dog.
Restarting the game fixed it for them, on another player's suggestion.
The Firebrand
There is a way out
Trapped in the prison at the Stoneward Post with no obvious way out.
Polygon: with your back to the dungeon, turn left and unlock the door next to the brazier. One player in the Steam thread got out the same way, through a door the prison keys open.
Fixed by a hotfix
| Quest | What went wrong | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Deep Down | Coen stuck in a cave. | Fixed in 1.0.4 |
| On the Run | Infinite loading while progressing the quest. | Fixed in 1.0.4 |
| Hive and Seek | One of the solutions ended the quest early. | Fixed in 1.0.4 |
| The Heart Wants What It Wants | A blocker stopped the quest. | Fixed in 1.0.4 |
| Smoke and Ashes | The rag had to be investigated to continue. | Optional since 1.0.4 |
If the game will not save
Hotfix 1.0.4 fixed an issue that blocked players from saving. Its notes do not say which situation that was, so if saving is still unavailable after updating, it may be a different problem, or the same one coming back. Fextralife says manual saves work any time you are out of combat, so saving being unavailable during a fight is expected.
PC settings that help with stutter
IGN's settings guide, written before the hotfixes, says texture quality should be one of the first things you turn down if you run into stuttering, and to use your graphics card's own upscaler: DLSS on Nvidia, FSR on AMD, XeSS on Intel. If you are not sure your PC meets the bar at all, the system requirements has the minimum and recommended specs, and the best PC settings page goes through every graphics option.
