Is there New Game Plus in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Not yet. The game's director has said it is planned, with no date and no details. Until it arrives, here is what the game does today and how to replay without it.

A dark-clad swordsman fights armed men in yellow and black tunics on a wet cobbled street at night, a brazier burning beside them
A sword fight on a village street at night.

In the game today

No

A new game is a fresh start.

Planned

Yes

Said by the game director in an interview.

Release date

None given

“I won’t tell you when.”

The short answer

There is no New Game Plus mode yet. A new game is a fresh start. Rebel Wolves’ game director has since said one is planned, but not when it will arrive or what it will carry over.

That matters more than usual here, because most sources say finishing the story closes the open world: you cannot wander back to tidy up after the credits.

What people use instead is a manual save before the last quest, which reaches the endings that branch at the final quest without starting over.

What a second playthrough keeps

The game itself

Nothing yet

The reviews and player threads describe no way to carry anything into a second campaign.

Unofficial PC mod

  • Character level
  • Learned perks and their ranks
  • Unspent skill points
  • Money
  • Equipped weapons and armour
  • Anything in your inventory bags
  • Quest items
  • Materials, consumables, recipes and keys
  • Quest progress, NPCs, the world and Infamy

What has been said about it, oldest first

Fextralife’s wiki says New Game Plus unlocks after your first completion. That wording comes from a page last edited before the game came out, and the guide section under it was never filled in; the game shipped without the mode. What reviewers, players and finally the director have said since:

  1. Fextralife wiki

    Page last edited before release

Describes New Game Plus unlocking after your first completion, keeping perks, equipment and level. The guide section under that description is empty.

  2. Mortismal (review video)

    Played a review build

Says plainly that the game does not have a New Game Plus mode.

  3. Insider Gaming (review)

    Published just before release

No going back to finish what you missed, and no New Game Plus yet.

  4. Steam discussions

    From launch week on

Several threads asking Rebel Wolves to add New Game Plus, or asking whether it is coming.

  5. Nexus Mods

    After release

A PC mod rebuilds the idea by exporting a character into a fresh campaign, something the game itself does not offer.

  6. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz (game director)

Interview with PlayStation Poland, after launch

Ends the chat with “And then there's New Game Plus. That's happening too.”, then adds “I won't tell you when.” PCGamesN quotes it from a machine translation of the Polish; IGN reports the same via GamesRadar.

  7. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz (game director)

Interview with Eurogamer, a few weeks after launch

Asked whether the studio is exploring New Game Plus: “Yes, we are.” He smiled and would not say more. The changes he named for the big patch planned for early October did not include it, though he said that list was not complete.

What is not known yet

Whether it arrives with the big patch planned for early October has not been said; it was not among the changes named for that patch. PCGamesN points out there is no indication of what the mode will involve: whether only skill points would carry over, or quest progress, or even a change to the time limit. IGN’s report is openly speculative on the same point, wondering whether a New Game Plus would let players replay until they have maxed a character or finished every quest. PCGamesN and IGN both leave what it carries over open, and Rebel Wolves has given no date.

When the story ends, the game ends

This is the part that catches completionists. If the 30 days run out, you keep playing without a timer, which what happens after 30 days covers. Finishing the story is different: PowerPyx says you go back to the title screen, Insider Gaming's review says “when your story ends, it ends”, and NorZZa's beginner guide says you lose access to the open world after the epilogue. GamesRadar+ is the one source that describes carrying on. Plan as if the final quest is a door that locks behind you.

Replaying in the meantime

  1. Keep a save you never overwrite before the final quest

Fextralife's endings guide recommends a manual save before the final quest, reloaded for each ending, and its save-system video says manual saves work any time you are out of combat. The endings that branch much earlier need an older save; the endings page says which.

  2. Finish the side content first

The ending most likely closes the world, so the time to clean up is before it. What you can lose for good lists the content that disappears on its own, and the 30-day planner shows how much fits.

  3. Start again for the other side of the big choices

Some decisions shape much more than the last scene: whether you kill or spare each boyar, or who uses the Font of Life. Seeing the other outcome needs a save from before the choice, or a new game.

The PC mod that fakes it

On Nexus Mods (more mods are on the mods page), “New Game Plus - Carry Level Perks Money and Gear” exports your level, perks, unspent skill points, money and the weapons and armour you have equipped, then imports them into a fresh campaign. Its page says original saves are never edited, because it works from a separate snapshot. It is an early version, it is PC only, and it is not made or supported by Rebel Wolves. The list above is its own account of what does and does not come across; quest progress and Infamy start from zero either way.

Is there DLC, then?

The only add-on on Steam is Eclipse Edition Content: the digital world compendium, soundtrack and comic book from the Eclipse Edition, sold on their own. There is no story or gameplay in it, and the FAQ has the prices. Before release, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told PAP Biznes that the studio had “recently started talks on this topic so as to plan a roadmap and timeline of smaller, free add-ons, but we have not yet made a decision.”

Separately, a sequel is on the way. Wikipedia records that less than a week after launch the studio was hiring a lead writer for the next game, and IGN reported before release that Rebel Wolves plans a saga that carries your choices from one game to the next. Who paid for the first one is on what the game cost to make.
